WHAT STRANGE TOWN?

27. WHAT STRANGE TOWN?

I oft do think of you stood in that road

For I've been on that spot a thousand-fold

Both trod those steps and wore out that stone

Yet never did speak or mark how we’ve grown

Both did hark to same clock’s chime

Just never at the self-same time

We’ve shared a town but never a day

Never did meet along the way

Both local folk born and bred

Though I alive and you long dead

On some still morn you had to leave

From this our town at once did cleave

Oft I wonder since you took your bow

In what strange town are you now?
