WHERE SONGS ARE SLICK
34. WHERE SONGS ARE SLICK
There’s a church I know that broke the mould
Where songs are slick but shepherds cold
That did after much committee search
Come up with new way to do church
Eyes all fixed on stage agleam
Spotlight, screen, cool fog machine
Communion’s timed to the minute
Pastor’s vexed if o’er the limit
Follows up with talk humdrum
Parsed by him to leave men numb
Sensitive to those that seek
Never warns of future bleak
No truth to bring a tut or frown
Word is ever watered-down
New ways to look like world he’ll find
Cares not that world has lost its mind
Some see in him a shepherd faux
Not one in ten there does he know
Scarce will speak or stay in pew
Off quite soon to pastures new
Pray for lambs of that poor fold
Where songs are slick but shepherds cold.
