JESUS WEPT

4. JESUS WEPT

Midst the dark and pressing gloom

He quietly stepped to shut-up tomb

Knelt beside where one man slept

The angels bow as Jesus wept

But two words yet not astray

For what more could one say?

Twas the plight of men ensnared

Provoked such tears of potent care

Was for a dead race appalled

Wept not for one but for us all

Then to ministering angels’ awe

He calmly rose and said, ‘No more!’
