LOVING MOSES
22. LOVING MOSES
Now Moses has been much maligned
For his books we’ve few words kind
Each Bible reader’s prone to slip
Find he does that Numbers skip!
Yet in Moses and all he spoke
I see a vision of one great oak
Love’s his source and firmest root
To which we look to see our fruit
From that come two trunks great
Splayed out wide to bear the weight
These two laws found Jesus’ favour
Love of God and love of neighbour
From that pair sprout branches ten
Four for God and six for men
I’ll make it clear and with no fog
I speak now of the Decalogue
From these fan out in fulsome host
Those many rules this tree can boast
To fathom them is no great labour
They’re merely ways to love your neighbour
Is then Moses such a mystery?
For Law is really just love you see.
