NATURE KNOWS
1. NATURE KNOWS
Nature knows a garden-world
Shielded safe in nestled peace
A regal, rich, abundant land
That last was seen in distant East
Diligent search she oft has made
To heal a loss that's left such grief
Not knowing why it bade farewell
Why it ever wished to leave
She yearns again to see that realm
So God-hallowed and wholly blessed
Whence came her fullest pulse of life
Sprawled and free in vernal rest
Groans for such a primal place
Where she found auspicious bliss
Filled with virgin verdancy
Holding all that she could wish
Where mists from earth and pleasant streams
Would wash her roots and feed her dreams
Where breeze through trees could play soft keys
And charm the hushed and holy peace
And do beasts of that same lost world
Lift heads in startled wonder
To hear from these, her lesser lands
Such oft-discordant thunder?
